Yes, this is the official release, the MineCon conference has just finished. If you want to try the update, be sure to first make a backup of your old files if you wish to join the server.

That's a good idea, but if you want more of a deterrent you can make lava traps out of the walls. It might need quite a bit of lava, though...

Until we have this issue sorted, please place an object ontop of your chests to stop them from being opened unless the object is removed(don't use glass/iron bars, for example). The Staff can do theft checks that way.

I disagree... In previous main Nether maps we had a "no-griefing zone" which comprised of the immediate area around the portal as well as a few specific walkways. Any location past the general portal area was perfectly fine to use. With unique materials and a means for PvP-type gameplay which the main map lacks, the Nether is hardly useless.
