Thread: [poll] Notre Dame - Complete! - For Now (Server Discussion) Posted on 12 May : 15:44
Hey Guys,

As most of you are aware, i have been working on a new project since i was late moving to the new spawn.
I set up Camp next to Naske Bank of China and wanted to do a similar epic landmark.

After approx 4 Weeks of work, i think ive reached the point where im happy with my build.

I give you Notre Dame
I built this originally in Creative mode, taking me approx 40hours to complete.
As you can imagine this has taken me much longer not to mention i had to landscape alot of the surrounding areas due to hills and lakes.
This amazing building i managed to visit about 10years ago in school and the building has been recreated using photos ive taken and my memory.

Thank you to all those whom gave me a bit of stone or wood here and their to help drive the project on.

I took screenshots during the build at different stages to show how i progressed. (because im weird like that)
Il post these all below smile

So feel free to have a look around, its now open to the server public, and as an added memento to get you guys to visit, there is a secret hidden chest with 10 diamonds hidden somewhere, who will find it?!
(Note: you dont have to destroy any blocks to find it so please dont)

Thank you for the MODs for allowing me to build and continue this project excusing the origional spawn rules.

---- Build Photos ----
Below :First i had to outline the parameter of the build, i forgot how huge it was, greatly over the 50x50 spawn rule.
1

Below :Blinky and Block0 both came to inspect and at first told me id have to reduce the side, until they decided its a project (thanks guys)
2

Below :Then the front arches went up, along with safe camp as this area turned out to be a mob swamp!
3

Below :Next the famous Glass window went up, i decided to use Glowstone to try and liven up the character of the stone.
4

Below :Finally the first bell tower went up
5

Below :The 4-sides of Tower one
6

Below : The Second Tower starts, I loved the hight of these towers but still my build is dwarfed by Naske's build.
7

Below :Starting down the sides, these glass windows we’re easy to build but still the right fall height for death.
8

Below :The first side-entrance arch goes up, these we’re a pain as I couldn’t see them clearly in my photos
9

Below :The Inside whilst the outer walls went up, Here you can see the huge hole its build over.
10

Below : A Shot from further back, it kind of puts the whole project in size perspective
11

Below : The Mobs contently attacking wasn’t easy so I went back a step and added more lighting, you can see the hut I built to AFK in whilst playing and two signs you guys left commenting on the build so far.
12

Below : LiveMap View : I love this shot, it put my build size in perspective for me.
13

Below : The photos we’re a little lacking here so I jumped ahead, the roof is now on and covered with the cobblestone stairs, this photo was taken as I was putting up the main Alter tower.
14

Below :Next I had to deal with the huge hole under it, I couldn’t just close it off as I didn’t want mobs spawning under it or their moans ruining it. So recruiting my friend Yama26 we checkered random resources to close the space up.
15

Below : Finally the floor started to go down, this was a tough call for me as in my creative mode build the floor was made from Iron blocks and Obsidian, I decided to simply use black and white wool.
The mods helped me create a wool farm to the right side exit, which is now a public wool farm .
16

Below : I Started work on the second floor, since the beginning of the stone floor someone put a music box in the center, it was always playing 'Smooth Jazz' and people when visiting we’re always putting it on it was bloody annoying but the place looked empty without it.
17

Below : Putting the finishing touches to the upper windows and stone walls that I missed during first builds.
18

Below : Roof detail goes in, this was annoying as all hell, it was one of the last things I had to do, building a tower of dirt and tracks I made my way around the roof constructing the stone bracers and lighting them appropriately.
19

Below : Pedr0 stopped by as he often does when im building to see what’s going on and to drop off some discounted resources (cheers mate)
20

Below : At the very top of the Cathedral I created a Store room to house my bits and bobs.
21

Below : The outside is now Fully 100% complete, but still soooooooo.. much to do inside!
22

Below : MinecraftBlock0 & Pedr0 mucking around on the Alter Stage (giving the first service?)
23firstservice

Below :The view form Tower One of the Main Sphere Tower (im still unsure if im happy with the design)
25

Below : Getting There! With the paths finished, Building Complete, Water fountains flowing and Land-scalping done.. just the odd bits to do!
26

Below : The Inside lighting goes in, originally the low hanging chandeliers we’re made of wood with torches on them but I felt that the Glowstone looked better and also gave off more light!
The Church pews where possibly the most annoying part of the whole build, due to the amount having to be made, and the signs for arms are not able to be stacked (possibly due to our deadbolt mod) so they took forever.
27

And so I give you my finished work, I am currently happy with the result but I will always find things to pick at and change so in no doubt I will be back to alter it some how, but for now, I hope you all enjoy looking, running around and having fun in my project.

I am currently in discussions with Yama about doing a new and larger joint build with her to celebrate the British Olympics.

Final Note : I attempted to get a cool group shot of people from the server in front for the grand opening but ony two people out of the 16 online showed up. Typical!
