Read before answering the poll (It's also recommended to contribute your opinions to this discussion):Since a majority of the world is an ocean, and the spawn is near the coast, as well as a major river to the northwest (pictured). I was thinking of making a canal from spawn to the sea to the south. For this new world, I think the boat will be the best way to travel, it is faster than running, less expensive to build than minecarts and rail systems, (or nether based versions of that) and is only limited by the availability of water. I think that building a canal from point A (pictured) to point B will beneficial for the server since it will;
1)Beautify the desert by adding some water to the landscape, and since there will be footpaths, lights and bridges throughout the canal, it could encourage development around and to the south of spawn.
2) Help connect spawn to more distant parts of the continent and the world (no skyrail or road networks to spawn have been set up, and the routes are more flexible with boats)
3) Encourage exploration, since as I have stated before, the majority of the world is a large ocean, by setting up a canal system to connect with different parts of the ocean, once mainly new players are on a boat, they might be more inclined to go somewhere else.
It is for these reasons I want to build the canal. Its width will vary it will be initially narrow to accommodate for the settlements west of spawn (droid's and sev's) but be, on average 3-5 blocks in width, 3-5 blocks deep, and it will have footpaths on either side (2-4 blocks wide).
However, since there are other homes near the route of the canal, and since it will be built near/in spawn.
I've made this post to ask for approval of this project. The canal will only be built if the server staff, residents of the spawn area , and the residents near the canal's proposed site (namely Karmanov_Rus, droid225, and sev454, all of whom have properties or chests along or on the canal route) approve.
If you have any questions, comments, or criticisms, post them in the comments section or inbox me.
All are invited to participate in the construction if the canal proposal is approved.
P.S.
For those confused by the map of the canal's route it heads south, then turns west at the very end (marked in green on the map)

Map might be too small when viewed in thread, I recommend opening it in another tab.
