DW20 server

piggles, Sun Feb 22 2015, 11:59PM

Hey all, just thought I'd start a thread with any issues with have with the DW20 mod pack itself to help others avoid the issues or reduce them atleast.

My 1st issue is Big Reactors, I've been running my reactor for a few days now, and fuel usage has not been an issue.... untill today when I logged on to find it all gone.... now someone could have stolen it but I have my doubts on that, my quick search via google showed other people finding their reactors eating fuel when they go offline.

So word of warning, if you plan to you a big reactor and I know its a pita but turn it off when you logoff, if you don't wanna risk it eating all your fuel (or just limit the fuel it can tap into).
Re: DW20 server
Chista, Mon Feb 23 2015, 04:40PM

My main problem with DW's is that I still cant log on an play. Seems preferable to losing all my reactor fuel though..

draze, Mon Feb 23 2015, 04:45PM

There are two versions if DW. Make sure you're running "DireWolf20 (v1.0.3) Minecraft Version 1.7.10"

If there are errors or specific repeatable problems, let me know and i'll do my best to help you out. If you have Steam, add me if you wish, may be able to help better with live chat.

Re: DW20 server
piggles, Mon Feb 23 2015, 05:08PM

i did some late night testing off the server and killing the spawned mob "boulder fist" from blood magic will d/c you from the server, my guess is that the morph mod is unable to convert this mob and as such errors out.
Re: DW20 server
PatentedFiend, Mon Feb 23 2015, 06:01PM

Not the only problem caused by Morph, unfortunately. Squaffle and I have had some problems with morphing into particularly small creatures, where we end up displaced from our actual locations, usually suffocating in a wall while we think we're outside.

Also, morphing into a Thaumcraft Taint Swarm and back will leave the swarm effect where you were, including the sounds. So far as we can tell it's not possible to get rid of the false swarm, either.

@Mega, how much RAM do you have allocated to FTB?
Re: DW20 server

Max 4Gb, dont go any higher or it starts causing issues.
Re: DW20 server

i only have 4gb total on this laptop aha....
Re: DW20 server

Well that's just perfect then huh? max it to 4 gig and watch Windows crap a brick tongue
Re: DW20 server
Mortocus, Wed Feb 25 2015, 09:34AM

I know that some of the modpacks have problems when they only got 1gb assigned. My FTB DW20 pack normaly runs from 1.5 to 2.3 gb ussage, I know from personal experience that to low assigned RAM has crashed my FTB. GL Megs
Re: DW20 server
boriseng, Wed Feb 25 2015, 11:06AM

FWIW I think big reactors doesn't properly handle multiblocks that span chunk boundries, so the order the chunks load probably determines if the fuel is "remembered" or not. In Monster I'd aim to build a reactor and turbine in the same chunk, usually built directly adjacent to avoid the need for fluid transport.

In short I suggest making sure the reactor fits in one chunk.

Hey, i cannot connect, i keep getting this error as soon as i connect and then it get dc me frown

Java.io.IoException: An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host.

I tried updating java, restarting PC and router, even did a spam sweep :/ Any ideas? Once out of 20 times i get to stay for 30 ecs lol
Re: DW20 server
piggles, Mon Mar 23 2015, 07:19PM

did u build any new "tech" in ur base or something that may be the cause?
Re: DW20 server
__RaZoR__, Tue Mar 24 2015, 05:57AM

Ive only built Tinkers Smelter and a nether portal ^_^ The only other thing is i followed a map that too k me like 80 blocks away to a Colossus and i took a block and crystal from hid head and caused him to collapse, other than that, its all been very very basic :/
Re: DW20 server
__RaZoR__, Tue Mar 24 2015, 08:47AM

I have also found it ALWAYS happens when i use the nether portal. When ever i land in the other world (nether or normal) I instantly dc with that error :/
Re: DW20 server
Mortocus, Tue Mar 24 2015, 09:32AM

Are you near the colossus that collapsed? And did the DC start after that? There have been reports that people haven't been able to take them down and if you stand on it that maybe a cause. I have allso noticed that if you stand in a not normal angle (happened to yoshi with the conveior belts) that can DC you too, he logged in 5 times and got insta kicked before i moved the parts under him and al worked fine). So if you stand on the colossus maybe a simular problem can occur

I have allso been DC'ed a few times when i used my nether portal, doesn't happen all the time tho.
Re: DW20 server
piggles, Tue Mar 24 2015, 04:06PM

i've also started to get a DC when using the nether portal/myst link book, hopefully we can track down the source of this problem.

the error i just got while connecting was "a fatal error has occurred: the connection was reset" but i was able to re-connect right away with no further issue.

and on a side note, i've tested what caused my base to become corrupt and as we already know it was the transposer, but the direct cause was transfer (in this case) of resonant ender from a magma crucible to the transposer which had 2 portal tanks in it. the problem happens when the 1st tank is filled up and the 2nd tank goes to move into the filling slot, during my testing i found if there was enough liquid to fill the 2nd tank fully then there wasn't a problem but if it doesn't then BAM! error and corrupted block.

so in summary when filling anything via a transposer, try to limit to 1 tank at a time as none of my tests crashed with that.
Re: DW20 server
__RaZoR__, Tue Mar 24 2015, 06:26PM

Hey, No im not standing on the Colossus. Also i have tried an experiment, i travelled far to various locations far and wide and dc on purpose, and still i struggle to get back on. So its not my chnk causing the issue? Also went to nether again and everytime got DC and struggled to get back in. I have tried forcing an update with FTB and adjusted my memory allowance and it hadn't changed anything.

Thanks for the head up Piggles, again i have not got and machinery however i am going to start myst craft and il post the results when i start travelling to diff world.

Nice Broons!
Re: DW20 server
__RaZoR__, Thu Mar 26 2015, 05:48AM

I have to add that my lag was none existant and im in Aus so thank you so much Broonie! hardly any block lag or anything!

But im still having that connection issue! The first and 2nd time i connect seem to be ok, but when ever i travel through portals or books thats when it really dislikes me. I have tried everything to reboot ting my router everytime, even changeing from static ip and vice versa. Really strange :/ Im assuming its direwolf or server settings as im ok on the other FTB servers etc that i have tested so far. (none matching to the amount of fun as CFUK i shall note wink lol

The only other thing is we might not see the issues on start-up when the upgrade happens, but rather see them when you guys are playing. Then we're asking if it's a bug in 1.2.1 or a bug due to the upgrade.

It's "another" map wipe yeah, but would it be worth waiting another version or so?

Is this one beta or a stable release btw?
Re: DW20 server
piggles, Sat Mar 28 2015, 02:59PM

in my opinion, theres never been a modpack that isn't "beta", as for stable i'm not sure yet. I'm happy to wait myself, but other people are suffering issues far worse than myself.

we can always do a test run, save all current files/world/etc and then try and upgrade it, any issues we just roll back and deal with it till a much more stable and better version comes out and enough people agree its time to upgrade?

Re: DW20 server
Soul_UK, Mon Mar 30 2015, 03:37AM

Hmmm - I'm getting crashed out of DW within a minute or two of activity with a "fatal error". I can't see anything obvious in the console, but I'm not 100% sure what I'm looking for frown

Here is my Console Log of the entire boot-up form start to finish, up to when it crashed.

I had not long logged in, then had to hid in a rather large Raspberry bush from a creeper. I picked one bunch of berries by right-clicking and then when I right-clicked another bush, it crashed me out.

I'd already set the mipmap level to zero (Options > Video Settings > Mipmap Levels [for those that cont find it] - don't try dragging the bar, just click in the far left of the box and wait for the game to crash for a sec, and then the bar will move).

I've just tried all of Draze's suggestions from his advice in this post and I still suffered a fatal error after about 30 seconds of being logged in (all I did was right click a few more berries and then got a fatal error again). Also, the game was VERY laggy for the first 10 seconds, then it started to smooth out until it was "normal" - just before I was kicked again. No-one else was on the server at the time and I was somewhere near the spawn point.
Re: DW20 server
piggles, Mon Mar 30 2015, 04:54AM

just so i'm sure, is the fatal error a client crash or just the error you get when it disconnects you from the server?
Re: DW20 server
boriseng, Mon Mar 30 2015, 08:15AM

Version 1.2.1 also updates the COFH mods I think, and it appears to improve the graphics-related crashes.
Re: DW20 server
RaZorEdd, Tue Mar 31 2015, 01:53AM

I first had trouble logging in it would start to load mojang screen yhen instead of starting it vanished .I found it was the texure pack, if in default it would load perhaps some issues could be related
Re: DW20 server
Soul_UK, Thu Apr 02 2015, 08:48PM

Piggles - the "Fatal error" I was getting was the message I got on screen after it crashed me out of the server. I can still go back to the server menu and log back in again as the game is still running.
Re: DW20 server
TheBlueGenie, Fri Apr 03 2015, 09:27AM

This is the same message as I get Soul_UK along with Connection Timed Out occasionally
Re: DW20 server
piggles, Fri Apr 03 2015, 02:59PM

i get the feeling that error is down to mod blocks not loading in time for some reason and forcing you out, a quick re-login should allow the blocks to load before the chunks are unloaded again, this is only a guess mind, altough a high ping might also cuase this issue.

and on a side note the 1.2.1 update is now recommended so i shall be starting a poll shortly to gather some views.
Re: DW20 server
squaffle, Sun Apr 05 2015, 11:55AM

if we do update will we try keeping the map as-is ? At the end of the day if it doesn't behave we could always reset the map after the fact
Re: DW20 server
Shrapnel, Mon Apr 13 2015, 12:16PM

After some reasearch and server testing, it seems we need to set the level-type to BIOMESOP in the server.properties file to generate all of the new biomes; the next update would be a convenient time to do this.
Re: DW20 server
draze, Mon Apr 13 2015, 04:27PM

As per the poll for the next update, the comunity decided on a live update attempt to see if we can keep the map.

It is possible it could corrupt due to some of the bugs but it's a 50/50 shot at this point. DW has been mostly coded to allow updates without wipes but as you all know *griefers* happens when dealing with so many mods.
Re: DW20 server
BRooNiE, Mon Apr 13 2015, 06:25PM

Server updated, but I'll be honest, not that much looks to have changed.
Re: DW20 server
BRooNiE, Mon Apr 13 2015, 06:42PM

theres been changes in the mods/config, not much else

but the console is spewing out lots and lots of errors about entity tracking, so i'd recommend map wipe.
Re: DW20 server
piggles, Mon Apr 13 2015, 10:33PM

what sort of entitys are they? could using a command that kills all active mobs cure it? or is this tile based ones?
Re: DW20 server
squaffle, Tue Apr 14 2015, 04:00PM

if the changes seem pretty minor we could always roll back to the working version from a few days ago; the server restarts seemed to greatly help lag-wise and could happen more often, twilight could be deleted map-wise and a ban placed on going there. Better than a map wipe if nothing much has changed surely ?
Re: DW20 server
BRooNiE, Tue Apr 14 2015, 05:48PM

water based.

it looks nothing in the jar file has changed, but some mods have.

squaffle, restarts should be happening every 24 hours.
Re: DW20 server
squaffle, Tue Apr 14 2015, 06:20PM

yeah, the daily restarts have helped immensely; was just thinking if people wanted it even smoother then even more frequent ones would probably help even more
Re: DW20 server
Soul_UK, Wed Apr 15 2015, 01:48AM

I don't know the effect / load on the server, but I reckon a server restart every 6 or 8 hours should keep things running smoothly, without affecting gameplay too much smile

Since the upgrade to 1.2.1 - I have now been able to log in. I have found 1 bug so far - and that's if you try to right click (anything) whilst holding the red book you get to start with (which has no name), I instantly get crashed out of the game with a fatal error, but can log right back in without any issues.
Re: DW20 server

Re: DW20 server
squaffle, Wed Apr 15 2015, 05:42PM

as a random point of interest I haven't been able to log in since the update; I just timeout.
Looking at the log I would imagine it's something to do with
[14:01:42] [Netty Client IO #1/ERROR] [FML]: NetworkDispatcher exception
io.netty.handler.timeout.ReadTimeoutException
though I don't know too much about that sort of thing; can't be on much atm as very busy so it's no biggie, just if someone's experienced something similar
Re: DW20 server
piggles, Wed Apr 15 2015, 08:05PM

you double sure u've updated to 1.2.1? have u tried deleting/renameing the folder and re-downloading it?
Re: DW20 server
piggles, Thu Apr 16 2015, 02:53AM

the server seems to have developed a substantial amount of lag that seems to come in small/medium bursts rather frequently even after a restart.

I'm worried that someone has setup a under-performing quarry (spewing stuff everywhere) or has perhaps by accident has something chunk loading (there are some blocks not listed as chunk loaders) that can be causing this?
Re: DW20 server
Chista, Thu Apr 16 2015, 12:52PM

It's something at your base causing a crash. I went to have a look see, but now constantly crash when trying to log back in.

seems to be a NetworkDispatcher exception being thrown.

Ive been having random disconnects when going from dimension to dimension so ive looked at the logs and compared them.. journeymap seems to be the culprit so you might want to use mapwriter instead of journeymap to reduce the "fatal exception: connection terminated" count

if it is the nether causing it, could it be possible to do a nether wipe once a fortnight?

Good news!

Nand and I have made a discovery. The lag almost completely goes away so long as there is at least one person in the nether!

Makes zero sense! Kind of inconvenient for that one person! But it's better than nothing!

#stillneedsfixing

Discharge

I found this out yesterday too, I was the only one on the server atm and wile in nether, I had 0 lag, totally gone.. but when I came back to overworld it came back too..

maybe, just maybe, if no one is in nether it starts loading all those wither skelly chunks (for ones that don't know there was odd and uncontrollable spawning of 1000s of wither skeletons in some chunks..), but if 1 person goes in, it starts loading only the current chunk? just an assumption..

btw I checked mine last time and it seemed fine and wither free..

I logged in this (Saturday) morning.. nobody was online except me. Lag was moderate in the overworld, but I was randomly disconnected several times for no apparent reason.

I tried going to the nether but contrary to what Alex and Nand discovered.. It didn't seem to be any better there and I was randomly disconnected once while in the nether.

Saw and killed 1 whither skelly.. no parties, mobs moving very slowly in nether.

I stopped logging in because the pattern seems to be the same as last times. Lag will get worse and worse over time, just lagging badly one day, causing occasional disconnects the day after and being plain unplayable tomorrow
Re: DW20 server
AlexKockica, Sat Jun 13 2015, 09:45AM

I was getting random disconnects/crashes too..
what ever we do from now on, we have to add opis or similar tools to fight the source of lag.. so that what Chista said doesn't happen again.. otherwise we would have a perpetual pattern that will stop us from playing frown
having either rerolls or resets etc doesn't fix the problem, it's a temporary solution that fails in the long run

I've reset the Nether.

thanks you! lag is completely gone now.. but I'm afraid to go to the nether now xD

At least we know what causes the lag if it ever reoccurs. best to just go in cos sooner or later i -will- have to do bees there anyway =S

it might be possible using witchry to make a nether biome in the overworld for ur bees smile but i suspect people will use the nether anyway.
Re: DW20 server
piggles, Sat Jun 13 2015, 06:27PM

just an update as wintershot pointed out to me that the enderthermic pump actually loads a 5x5 area of chunks instead of the 2 total chunks that it says it will. so I plan to setup a free lava gen near spawn using a ender tank set to orange/red/orange for anyone to tap into instead of seting up a new pump.

I dont expect people will be too happy with the random ghasts flying around and roasting their chickens.

Another series of server crashes happened just now (mid-day Sunday 21st) . Apparently cause by a mystcraft age that was created. Server is now running with a fair bit of constant lag.

First off, I would like to apologize for the events of today and to anyone who is going to lose progress to a rollback, and to Broonie for having to rollback. I take full responsibility for the events that unfolded. I knew the damage the item could cause and went ahead with it anyway.

Early this morning (US time) Draze was trying to figure out a way to beat nearly infinite water that would not seem to relent. We tried most everything we could think of (Witchery spheres, pumps of all kinds, and sand filling). When none of that prevailed, I made a bottle of elemental fire - aer in an attempt to cakify his problem away. I also made some elemental fire - perditio in case anything were to go wrong- Which these fires have quite a track record of doing.

After informing Draze of the potential disaster, we opted to test on a smaller scale on an island far away from end spawn, where it couldnt spread to anything, and it seemed rather ineffective.

Nonetheless, I broke open the bottle in a small airpocket and Draze and I watched as the fire seemed to be contained by the surrounding water, not cakifying as we had hoped. After 30 or so minutes of nothing, a stumped Draze went to bed, and I went back to my base to get perditio fire. However, as Draze wasn't on, and I hadnt set a warp or waypoint, I wasnt sure where his base was, and went to bed self assured the fire could not get out of its basalty confines.

Then I awoke to a watery grave. An unwitting Draze created a small hole in his basalt cylinder and the cake was let loose, presumable ruining the ocean and spreading onto land and killing biomes for as far as the chunks were loaded.

And that's the story of how I ruined CFUK for a day. Sorry :X

On that note, I would like to move to ban the elemental fires. They're not overly difficult to make, and even in the hands of careful people can easily get out of hand. In the hands of someone with intent to destroy, the result could be much worse.

Re: DW20 server
draze, Sat Jul 04 2015, 11:35AM

Not your fault squip, during the lag spikes i ended up busting a hole in the containment, the lag should have been an indicator as to what was going on tbh. Anyway thanks broons and also sorry to anyone who has been affected by the rollback.

As a side note, i have tested this fire in SP. strangely if dirt is near even warded blocks the fire somehow manages to break through so no matter how you try to contain it, it still escapes... At this point due to the issue i would request that all players not use any of the thaum infused fire bottles, at the moment they are just too damned destructive. If it is required in a crafting recipe then fair enough but please do not place them.

Hopefully the modder will see sense and instead of exponential growth, will limit the range of the bottles like the old wrath igniter was limited to affecting only 12 blocks radius.

Not sure if it's just me or if DW20 server is down, but doesn't appear like I can get on. Just getting unable to connects
