Seems like it could be an alternative to bukkit if it comes out before it. The only problem seems like if we were to use it. We would need to start a fresh new world.
What do you guy's think?

In my opinion nobody has really started any major builds here so if the need was well needed it wouldn't be a significant problem to handle with.To me a plugin that is out is a good plugin at this stage

Does anyone understand what's really happened with bukkit? From what I read it seems as if one developer decided to cancel it and the rest of the team seem to be continuing, but I don't know what's real.

Mojang bought Bukkit and one Dev quit. Everything else seems to be a mess.
Re: Sponge SpinDreams, Sun Oct 12 2014, 08:12PM
From the forums it seems that a whole bunch of bukkit devs have quit amid controversy concerning Mojang buying bukkit and a DMCA take down for copyright of code or some such thing, and now they decided to make Sponge, read more here
35 bukkit staff members left in the past couple months a few of them lead devs . Mojang and curse weren't nice.
edit: there are a couple other plugins (glowstone and such) but theyre very early stages broonie is looking into them and they have been discussed also.

That was informative. Thanks for the link Spin.
Re: Sponge boriseng, Mon Oct 13 2014, 09:44AM
So as far as I can tell Glowstone seems to implement Creative but not Survival. That's reading between the lines though.
Re: Sponge Discharge, Mon Oct 13 2014, 11:35AM
This seems to be a good summary of what has happened.
That was informative. So now I wonder when we are moving to the Minecraft realms? Seems like it's the only solution at this point. If bukkit needed craftbukkit to run plugins then how will Sponge or any other project actually do it better when they don't have the codes needed.
Re: Sponge boriseng, Tue Oct 14 2014, 07:50AM
FWIW does that interpretation of the GPL even stack up?
Edit: Yeah it does, the FSF do spell out their views on what constitutes "linking", and pretty much rule out using GPL for plugins to closed-source software.
I'm having a bit of a "Everything you thought you knew about the GPL is wrong" moment here. I don't know why but this mess seems to be strangely compulsive reading.
I'm removing the rest of my earlier post, its not relevant.
