Which server did you try to logg on too?
Vanilla is currently 1.6.4 version, just waiting for the new craftbukkit.
And the FTB Unleashed is running 1.1.3 (minecraft version 1.5.2)

what you can do to go to the correct version(for now)
1. open up launcher
2. new profile
3. at "use version" select 1.6.4
4.???
5.login using that profile and have fun

ip is minecraft.crazy-fools.co.uk:25565
its located on the main page at the right with: Crazy-Fools.co.uk Survival Server NEW! above it.
hope this helps you get on the server
