Can't log in? Try this before posting wink

OK, so sometimes you try and log in, but can't. This guide is aimed at people that have previously been able to connect to the CFUK minecraft server/s, but all of a sudden can't connect.

This is not a guide for those that have been banned, or have had trouble connecting from the start.

Please follow the following steps. If you have any difficulties, questions or other suggestions, please reply below, and I'll do my best to update this post to make it as helpful as possible.

1) Logged into Minecraft OK, but can't log into the server.
Try to log in again a few times - sometimes the server has a minor glitch and it takes a minute or two to be able to log in. If you are still not having much luck, try loading up the livemap for the server you are trying to join. If the clock is constantly cycling through the same 3 or 4 seconds, then the server is down.

2) Can't log into Minecraft.
Check the following link - http://help.mojang.com/ - If it's showing that the minecraft server is down, then that's your answer. If minecraft isn't down, then you need to check your own hardware.

3) The CFUK website is slow or fails to load.
You might have a problem with your internet connection, try another website or two and if they are same, try restarting your Modelm & router.

Unplug your modem & router ... or if they are the same thing - just unplug it. Wait AT LEAST 30 seconds and then plug it back in again ... If you have a seperate modem and router, plug the modem in first, wait for it to sort itself out (normally takes no longer than a minute), then plug the router back in.

Wait for it all to load up and show that you are connected to the internet (look at the pretty lights on the front - there's normally one to say the internet is all ok), then try a few websites other than CFUK to see if you are actually online or not. Then try the CFUK website to see if that works. If it does, try and connect to the CFUK minecraft server/s.

4) Minecraft / Tekkit was updated recently.
Has there been an update to Vanilla or Tekkit? If there has and you updated, then you might have done so too soon. It takes a few days for Broonie to update the CFUK scripts (that help to keep us all safe on the server) ... So if you updated when asked to via Vanilla / Tekkit, then you might be ahead of the game - i.e. You'll just have to wait a few days or so before you can connect.

A simple tip on this front is - if Vanilla / Tekkit ask you to update, say no. Then try and connect to the CFUK server/s ... If you still can't connect, then the server has probably been upgraded, so update your MC for the appropriate CFUK server and try to sign in again.

5) Change in Virus Checker / Firewall software.
Have you updated / changed your virus checker or firewall recently? If so, then that could be the cause of your problem. Check to see if it has blocked Minecraft / Technic Pack (for Tekkit) and try and "allow" the application/s to run through your virus checker / firewall.

You will have to consult your own virus checker / firewall's manual in order to find out how to do this. I cannot advise you on how to do this for each one, otherwise this post will become a book. So please consult the support forums for your own virus checker / firewall, as we won't be able to help you with those details.

-----------------------------------------------------------------

That's all I can offer for now - any further idea's / suggestions would be greatfully recieved.

I think this should be made a sticky to prevent further random "Is the server down?" posts - obviously with this paragraph removed.

This should be a sticky, a lot of useful information here that should stop a lot of "cannot log in" posts

for 4. You can also download MultiMC and manually downgrade it so you can still log in.

Updated to include a few extra details, and added titles to each section to help summarise the probable cause of your problem (making it easier to skip to the right section rather than just doing everything on the list). smile
