Question!

BRooNiE, Wed Apr 18 2012, 03:19PM

Heres an old extract from our old, old, old old, old, very old, [our first] servers link account process.

Welcome to Crazy-Fools.co.uk, your favourite Minecraft Community.

If you want to skip the description, and go straight to the instructions look a bit fruther down, otherwise, read on!

We are a well-known Minecraft community, at one point we were #1 on the unofficial server list!

We don't have a set objective on our community yet, however it is in discussions. For now we really are mostly set to a free build server. with friendly staff and a great community!

Our registration system was one of the first in the Minecraft community giving a new definition, semi-private. For instructions on how to register, look below!

How To Register

To register on our website, and to complete step one of gaining unlimited access to our server, click Sign Up.

You will have to fill out a username, and a password. Please use a different password from your Minecraft one, and don't worry about security, we've got that covered too.

After signing up, please login, and above you'll notice a Link Account option, click on that then type in your MINECRAFT username, this can only be done once, so double check before hitting that submit button!

After that, your done! Wait around 10 minutes for the application to process, then you'll have access to the server. To connect to the server, type server.crazy-fools.co.uk into the SMP server textbox.

Heres the question, can anyone guess why instead of the code-based link account now, why did users have to wait 10 minutes?

Because nasty web-bot's won't wait - they try and link immediately (if they're clever enough to get that far). I think I signed up this way and at the time just signed up, went and had lunch, came back and violla!!! - I was in cheesey

Because the list of linked names was stored on the webserver, which was a separate server to the minecraft server. The minecraft server queried the web server every 10 minutes for an updated list (since query it too often and you risk slowing everything down).

That's just a guess.

Actually Discharge, that's not a bad idea - as if you look at how many people now play minecraft, and then look at how many of those play remote servers, you don't want to check the minecraft server every second or it'll slow EVERYTHING right down across all servers (if I understand it correctly).

Anti-Spambot!

I'll go for the obvious answer... because Broonie woke up every 10mins and typed the newly registered members' name into the list on the server.

Because 5 minutes isn't enough and 15 too much? wink

Its about 10mins, so it actually took 7, and 7 is the answer to the meaning of life?

Newly registered users just assume Broonie does something useful in those 10 minutes that is necessary for the registration process and are convinced he is a wonderful, harmless admin, when in actuality he spent this time spawning ridiculous numbers of sheep to create a parade of sheep to follow wheat holders? <3
