Getting ready for the Endermen

As of yet I don't know what the Endermen will be like. I know only what Notch has posted on his blog and of that stream from Notch's phone and that it seems if you wear a pumpkin on your head they avoid you (apparently)

I think that they will be a rather annoying mob for main reasons 1.They pick up your house 2.So far they are reported by mc wiki to drop diamonds (but it is a wiki so idk) that will just make it to easy to get diamonds they will lose there rarity and become as common as gunpowder or string. and 3 they will make mob systems more complicated than they are already.

so are the endermen good additions to the blocky game we all love?

They only move natural blocks (non player placed), They are also very rare.

They bring a old edge back to the game, Creepers are not as scary.

hopefully they are too rare/ hard to mob trap farm them, could make diamonds a little too easy to get.

I was hoping that they wouldn't be all that rare. Sure, meeting him every 10 minutes would kind of just get annoying and take away the horror of it - but very rare? I fear I probably won't even notice that I was going past him for better parts because I can't be assed looking.

Mobtraps? Hmm. We'd have to learn his spawn restrictions first. Do he spawn in caves? Any dark place? How much space does he need?
Sure, he'll be rare, but he can probably still be mob trapped.

the enderman does NOT drop diamonds, it only did that during the pax day thing, also they are 3 metres tall so theyd probably need a minimum of 3 high to spawn

And I agree with Aco, it will bring back that fear aspect that you get when you are first learning to play. You get used to having creepers creep up on you after a while.

There's also another mob thats not really been touched up on in the media. The Silverfish. It's apparently a mob which spawns as you're -mining-. Yes, as you're diggy diggy-ing your holes for mineshafts there is going to be a small chance that a mob will jump out of the block at you. I think that's going to be a bit more fearful than the Enderman which is avoidable. Also if you saw the IGN video I posted, Notch mentioned that the Endermen will be rarer in the public release of 1.8 than they were in the PAX demo.

Also some other nuggets I've uncovered while I have some attention;

- Strongholds, a new type of dungeon, may end up being boss spawn locations according to Jeb. Though this won't be for until after 1.8.

- Farming is apparently going to be more varied now. Few details have been released but it is going to be possible to farm Pumpkins, Melons and allegedly Cocoa Beans will be farmable (finally!)

- Food items will now stack to 64.

- Other food stuffs being added; Melon Slice, Raw Chicken, Cooked Chicken, Raw Beef, Steak. Also the Cooked Porkchop texture will be switched with the Steak, Porkchops will get a lighter coloured texture.

- Quite a few new cosmetic blocks including Stone Bricks and Iron Bars, most of which are found in the Strongholds.

- Another new mob, the Blue Spider. Will spawn in Abandoned Mines (another new dungeon type) and can also poison the player! Much more menacing looking than the ickle baby spiders we have now.

- Also mob loot will be changed around some. One such change being that Zombies will no longer drop Feathers. Instead they will drop Rotting Flesh, though no purpose has yet been revealed for the new item.

- More online support! Apparently there will be a server list in game now, allowing you to surf servers without having to keep checking your browser!

- Also one for the Mods here. In SMP moderators will be given the ability to access Creative mode while in game. Allowing them to fly around and have access to the infinite inventory.

There were many more things I'd read but I can't remember them all. Haven't had my coffee. T_T

Food shops should become incredibly profitable in the 1.8 mode since we'll now have Hunger meters. Food won't instantly heal anymore, instead you'll need to keep your Hunger meter high in order to heal over time. Full hunger granting half a heart every five seconds apparently and deteriorating from there. However, the hunger feature -can- be switched off and allow food to work as it normally would, if it becomes too bothersome and enough people ask Broonie.

ALSO! Not sure if this is in 1.8 or 1.8.1 (Notch and Jeb have already stated that the Adventure Update is so huge they'll need to pass a lot of things into another version update!) but animals will soon become persistent. Meaning those that first spawn on the servers creation will be the only ones present. At this point also, animal breeding will be implemented. So it'll be possible to make full blown Minecraft farms to produce all the food needs of the world.

Seems a great deal of the Adventure Updates are leaning towards adding a stronger Role Play essence to the game I feel, which I actually like.

Ahem, there has been two occasions where mods get op ^^

ie Me and Shrap with the temp map, and then Flightster at a later date.

Anyway, I'm not sure flying would really be fair. We already have god mode.

So we can expect Broonie2.0 to start flying around and build stuff as if it was creative mode? Great. Just what we needed. A rogue server script with the ability to fly and create things.
