Ive been thinking a bit about all the new players that arrive. Should we offer them a new starter pack or do we just send them out into the wild and hope they find a safe place before the either die from hunger or get their face ripped off.
So im putting out a vote i think to the server out of morbid curiosity.
Do you think we should offer these new players a little starter pack when they join us?
If so what should be in it?
Id say each pack should have 1 cooked chicken and 3 bread (thats good enough for a few days) and maybe a stone sword so they dont die so fast.
So cast your vote and if you think yes drop a message with the contence of your starter pack if you like.
We strive on being an "as close to vanilla as possible" server, and a survival one at that. We've all had to work for what we currently have at one point, and I see no reason to change that..
+ I don't like the thought of arming potential griefers either.
basically you to summed up what i was going to say :3
Vanilla and survival, although for donators that becomes a little easy to forget though.
All they need to do is do what they do in single player.. its not hard for them but new players like to take adventage of multiplayer servers for being a community hoping to get freebies but thye'll just have to realise that were not a give me everything i like server.Where a survival server and they'll just have to get up and do some work like the rest of did
Droid out!
We had a donation chest for newbies at one point, we had to ban axes, swords, pickaxes, and hoes simply because they were used for griefing.
Blocks were usually misused to destroy spawn
To be fair, we normally have a farms near spawn so they can gain stuff needed to survive.
Definitely not happy about the idea of giving newbies a weapon. All too often they log on and start attacking the first player they see.
And when it comes to food, there is a wonderful melon farm they can use, gaining all the sustenance they need with the simple push of a button.
I know, instead of tools we could give them Tnt and 5 lava bukkits. Thts sure to liven things up at spawn.
unless you like spawn being a crater filled with lava
well ive been well and truely put in my place -cry- but your points are well put i didnt think of the griefing points before.
Im now going to go and cry in the corner so ill be back later. sniff sniff.
i would like to say though, it isnt very hard to get a set of stone tools. in fact, you can get a set in about 5 minutes, so whats the difference between a griefer starting with stone tools and a griefer getting their own set of stone tools in 5 minutes?

Not giving tools:
Lowers the potential for someone to take advantage of it, in the griefer sense.
Giving tools:
Increases the potential for someone to take advantage of it, in the griefer sense.. It's like saying: "You came here to break stuff? Cool, here's some tools so you don't have to waste time getting some yourself! <3 The Staff"
That said, I stand by what I said and will never agree to "starter kits" or anything of the sort.
If it takes someone 5 minutes before they have a set of tools to grief with then thats 5 minutes longer that they're not griefing for. And 5 minutes longer for us to identify them for what they are
I see. In that case, I'm against starter packs too.
